Is GaN charging safe for my phone and laptop?

Yes. GaN changes how the charger converts power, not how your device receives it — speed and voltage are still negotiated by the device over USB Power Delivery. A certified GaN charger is at least as safe as silicon, and its cooler operation reduces long-term stress.

Do GaN chargers charge faster than normal chargers?

Watt for watt, no — 65W is 65W. The practical gain is that GaN makes high wattages small and affordable, so most people move from a 20W brick to a 65–140W charger, and that jump is dramatic.

Are GaN chargers worth the extra cost?

Does a higher-wattage charger damage my phone?

No. With USB Power Delivery your device negotiates exactly what it wants — a 140W charger gives a phone the 25W it asks for. Wattage on the box is a ceiling, not a force. Poor voltage regulation in uncertified chargers is the real risk, and that's a quality problem, not a wattage one.

Can I charge a laptop with a phone charger?

Usually yes, slowly. A 20W charger will trickle-charge most USB-C laptops while they're idle or asleep, but it may lose ground while you work. For real charging, match the laptop's rated wattage — 60–65W for thin-and-lights, 96–140W for performance machines.

Is it OK to leave devices charging overnight?

Yes — modern devices stop drawing power once full and manage the battery themselves. Use a certified charger; heat and poor regulation are the real enemies, not charge duration.

Why does my phone charge slowly only at night?

That's usually deliberate. Optimised (iOS) or Adaptive (Android) Charging learns your alarm time and slows overnight charging to reduce battery wear, finishing just before you wake. You can disable it in battery settings if you prefer raw speed.

Does using the phone while charging damage it?

No damage — incoming power just splits between the screen and the battery, so charging slows. Heavy gaming while fast-charging adds heat, which the phone manages by throttling one or the other.

Is wireless charging slower than a cable?

Generally yes — 15W wireless versus 20–30W wired — but a well-aligned Qi2 magnetic charger closes most of the everyday gap, especially overnight when speed doesn't matter.

Do Qi2 chargers work with MagSafe iPhones?

Yes, fully. Qi2 uses the same magnetic geometry as MagSafe, so any iPhone 12 or later snaps on and charges at the full 15W.

Is Qi2 faster than normal wireless charging?

In practice, yes — 15W versus basic Qi's 7.5W. And because magnetic alignment is guaranteed, you actually receive that speed instead of a misaligned fraction of it.

Can I wirelessly charge through a phone case?

Yes, through most cases up to about 3mm thick. For the magnetic snap you'll want a Qi2 or MagSafe-compatible case with the ring built in; thick or metal cases block charging entirely.

Is it bad to wireless-charge overnight, every night?

No. Optimised charging holds the battery near 80% for most of the night and tops up before your alarm — the constant trickle-maintenance of older devices is long gone. Nightly nightstand charging is the designed use case.

Why does my phone get warm on a wireless charger?

Mild warmth is normal energy-transfer loss. Noticeably hot means poor alignment, a thick case, or an uncertified pad — all fixable causes, none inherent to wireless charging.

Does fast wireless charging wear the battery faster?

Only via heat, which certified 15W Qi2 chargers manage with temperature monitoring and rate control. At these wattages the practical difference against normal ageing is negligible.

Can I edit 4K video directly off a portable SSD?

Yes — at PCIe Gen4 speeds, editing 4K (and most 6K proxies) straight off the drive is realistic, provided the enclosure sustains its speed and you're on a USB4 or Thunderbolt port.

Does a Gen4 SSD work with older USB ports?

Yes, it's backwards compatible — it simply runs at the older port's maximum speed. You lose speed, never compatibility.

Is 512GB, 1TB or 2TB the right size?

512GB suits documents and photo libraries, 1TB is the sweet spot for creators shooting 4K regularly, and 2TB pays off for video professionals and game libraries. Whichever you pick, keep a second copy — speed is a feature, a backup is a policy.

Is 8GB of RAM still enough in 2026?

For light browsing and documents, barely. For anything else — or any machine you want to keep three more years — no. 16GB is the realistic floor, and the price gap has never been smaller.

Will adding RAM make my computer faster?

Dramatically, if you're currently running out — the symptoms are slow app switching, stutter with many tabs, and heavy disk activity. If you're not maxing your current RAM, more changes little. Check Task Manager or Activity Monitor first.

Can I mix different RAM brands or speeds?

It often works, but everything runs at the slowest module's speed and mismatched timings can cause instability. Matched kits exist for a reason — for a small price difference, skip the science experiment.

How long do SSDs and HDDs last?

Both typically serve 5–10 years. SSDs have finite write cycles, but modern endurance ratings far exceed consumer use; HDDs fail mechanically and less predictably, especially when moved often. Either way, lifespan is why backups exist.

Is an SSD worth it just for backups?

Yes, behaviourally: a backup that takes four minutes happens weekly, one that takes forty minutes happens never. The reliability of the habit is worth more than the price difference.

Can I use one external drive for both Mac and Windows?

Yes — format it as exFAT and both platforms read and write it natively. Do this before loading files; reformatting later erases the drive.

Do USB-C hubs slow down my laptop?

No — they share the port's bandwidth. Only heavy simultaneous use (4K display + fast SSD + Ethernet) can saturate a basic hub, which is exactly the scenario where a Thunderbolt dock earns its price.

Can a USB-C hub charge my laptop?

Yes, via passthrough — plug your charger into the hub's PD port. Expect around 85–90% of the charger's wattage to reach the laptop; the hub keeps a little for itself.

Does a docking station work with any laptop?

Any laptop with Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4 gets full functionality. USB-C-only laptops still work, with reduced bandwidth and display support depending on the machine. A dock also can't override your laptop's own external-display limit.

Do Thunderbolt 4 cables work with iPhone and Android?

Yes — they're fully-featured USB-C cables, so they charge and sync any USB-C phone at that phone's maximum speed. Overkill for a phone alone, ideal as the one cable that handles everything.

Is Thunderbolt 4 the same as USB4?

Close cousins. USB4 can reach 40Gbps but many implementations run at 20Gbps; Thunderbolt 4 mandates the full feature set. TB4 is effectively USB4 with every optional box ticked and certified.

Why are Thunderbolt cables more expensive?

Active electronics in the connectors, tighter shielding, and mandatory certification. That's also why a genuine 2m TB4 cable still delivers 40Gbps while a cheap unbranded "USB-C" cable quietly doesn't.

Is a 20,000mAh power bank allowed on Emirates and Etihad?

Yes — 20,000mAh equals about 74Wh, well under the 100Wh no-approval limit. Carry it in your hand luggage only; power banks are banned from checked baggage on every airline.

What happens if I leave a power bank in checked baggage?

Screening flags it, your bag is pulled and searched, and the power bank is removed — sometimes delaying you and your luggage past the flight. It's never worth the risk.

How many power banks can I bring on a plane?

Under 100Wh, most carriers allow several for personal use. In the 100–160Wh band the cap is typically two units, with airline approval. Above 160Wh they're prohibited outright.

Can a solar panel charge a phone directly?

Yes, but charging a power bank and then the phone from the bank works better — the battery buffers passing clouds and panel re-aiming, which otherwise interrupt the phone's charge cycle repeatedly.

Do solar panels work in UAE summer heat?

They work, slightly less efficiently — output drops a little as temperature climbs, and your devices need shade while charging. The October–April camping season is solar's happy place here.
